Getting Started
All new players begin in the Learn To Play (LTP) programme, starting from age 4. Coaches decide when players are ready to progress to Development or Competitive teams (Under 11 through Under 18), so no need to worry about placement — the coaches have it covered.
What We Play
- Inline Hockey — The main activity. Junior teams compete in the Inline Hockey Ireland league, with games held in Cork, Portadown, and Bangor. There are also Monday evening pick-up sessions (7–8pm) for extra game time.
Registration — Two Steps Required
- Club Registration — Fill in the online form and download the SPOND app (used for schedules, payments, and communications).
- Inline Hockey Ireland Registration — Required for all players; covers insurance. Register at inlinehockeyireland.org.
- Ice Hockey Insurance (optional) — €50/year via iiha.justgo.com, only needed if your child is invited to ice sessions.
Equipment
The club rents out second-hand starter equipment so new players can try hockey before parents invest. Members are encouraged to bring their own inline skates if possible. Key points:
- Helmets must be ice/inline hockey specific — no Gaelic or other helmets
- Chest guards and neck guards are required for ice hockey but not inline
- Coaches are very happy to advise on purchasing the right gear — always ask before buying
Communication
The club uses SPOND for all scheduling, fees, and team updates, plus a WhatsApp group for general club-wide communication.
Club Rules (highlights)
- Full safety equipment must be worn at all times
- Players should arrive ready to train at least 15 minutes before sessions start
- Zero tolerance for bullying; the club is fully inclusive
- Parents are asked not to coach from the sidelines during training or games
- Only players may enter changing rooms
Volunteering
Each family is asked to volunteer when they can — helping at games, managing teams, photography, fundraising, and more.
